Easter 2025 is the 350th anniversary of Jacques Marquette's Mass at Kaskasia along the Illinois River where he was enthusiastically received by the Illini, and not enough people are talking about it.
Dr. Milliner, thanks for putting you for putting this essay on your Substack. I enjoyed it. I also enjoyed your books “Mother of the Lamb” and “The Everlasting People.”
I was wondering if there is any plaque or marker designating the spot in Utica where Fr. Marquette celebrated Mass in 1675?

I’m afraid not on the precise spot! Though it might be the fact that it’s a floodplain. Good news is there is a Marquette statue and Catholic Church very close by. https://www.google.com/search?q=St.%20Mary%27s%20Catholic%20Church&ludocid=6829051224151849937&ibp=gwp;0,7&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj35_LP8c2MAxX278kDHSIsLaMQ_coHegQIIhAB&sxsrf=AHTn8zoL75DCuxcb16NxoXiFDf5SMaxPug:1744302619020
Thank you. I’ve actually attended a mass at St. Mary’s when we camped at the State Park,
although at that time I had no idea about the connection to Fr. Marquette. You’ve inspired me to make a trip. Thanks.
